Great Ocean Road Art
Luke Hallam, artist
The Great Ocean Road is one of the most inspiring tourist destinations in the world.
Running from Torquay in the Surf Coast Shire, through the Twelve Apostles just outside of Port Campbell and ending in Allansford. The Australian National Heritage listed 243 kilometres road along the south-western coast of Victoria in Australia was built by returned first world war soldiers between 1919 and 1932, dedicated to soldiers killed during the war, making it the world's largest war memorial.
The world famous Great Ocean Road is a unique passage along the rugged and varied coastline. A major draw card for the state, and country in relation to international tourism and it is regarded as a "must see" for many. Once you've seen the coast it's not difficult to see where the inspiration comes from, to create Great Ocean Road, Art.
Working along the Great Ocean Road as an artist, I am blessed to access it's endless, visceral inspiration. Broad open beach-scapes, plunging cliff faces, expansive seascape vistas and the every changing atmospherics generated by coastal weather, geography and ocean surface temperatures.

The Great Ocean Road borders some of the most picturesque, wild places on earth. Having spent many years growing and exploring this region through surfing, camping, and art, there's still much to be discovered, using an unrushed observation of places, and moments in time and atmosphere I use my painting to examine closely a place that I love and never tire of, to the core of my being.
In painting the Great Ocean Road and surrounds, I aim to capture the theater and presence of this place, I revel in the time I spend in its company - often spaced over many years, returning to locations at different times of the year and day. Painting, to create my interpretation of a moment in time, in a place that is always shifting and changing, yet an ever-present constant - such is the sea and the Great Ocean Road.
